On November 22,
SWUFE President Zhaode Wu and Vice President Ding Renzhong met with former
President of New York State University Professor Bruce Johnstone. The School of Public Administration also attended the
President Zhao on behalf of the university gave a warm welcome to Professor
Johnston, and great pleasure in appointing him as a visiting professor at
SWUFE. President Zhao said he expects Professor Johnstone to come to SWUFE
every year to give lectures and Professor Johnstone responded by praising the
quality of our teachers and students, saying also that he was particularly
impressed by the students in the previous days lecture.
Ding discussed the history of SWUFE after which Professor Johnstone offered
thanks for the warm reception, and introduced the history and current
educational specializations of the New York
Vice President Ding and Professor Johnstone then proceeded to have a long
discussion of faculty and personnel training and other exchange opportunities as
well as other possible ways to cooperate between the two universities.
JohnStone said that there are very good prospects for cooperation and that he
will talk with university principals and related people when returning to the U.S.
On November 21,
Professor Johnston gave a presentation on “The characteristics of American
higher education and challenges” to SWUFE students at the Guanghua forum.
Johnstone, is a Professor at the State University of New York, SUNY at Buffalo. He is Director
of Compare and the Global
Center. He formerly held
positions as: New York State University President, Dean of SUNY Buffalo, Vice-Chancellor Pennsylvania Asian
University, Chairman of
the American Higher Education Research Institute, President of the American Society
of Education and Chairman of the American Association of Colleges. Professor
Johnstone is a world-renowned expert on higher education finance and author of
